My mom is going to take Valkyrie for a few hours on Saturday evening while I have a few birthday drinks. I have a bunch of breastmilk in the freezer for her, and a bottle. She has never taken a bottle before, I don't know how to give a baby a bottle, and I have never defrosted my own breastmilk...
So.. I need some very clear instructions I can type up and give to her. If it is not very clear and to the point she will just wing it. Could someone give me a step by step list of instructions I can print out for my mom?

I don't have step by step instructions but have you looked at kellymom.com? I do know that you are NOT to defrost breastmilk in the microwave, you need to run it under hot water. Sorry I couldn't be more helpful.

when I would have dh feed ds this is the process.
take frozen bag out of freezer.
place in bowl of warm water.
once thawed mix very well in bag, if warm its good to use, if not replace warm water and resealing bag well warm it again.
mix well and make sure its not too hot.
pour into bottle and replace cap.
*important (my ds would not drink unless dh did this)
hold baby similar to breastfeeding position. baby facing parallel to adult body, head at breast, one baby arm above one below adults breast.
with baby in position sneak bottle in very close to the adults breast/nipple area. hold bottle at slight angle so there is never any air in the nipple.
don’t let baby suck in any air once bottle is finished.
burp well, baby may have more gas then when breastfeed.

A dessert shop with six pages of amazing desserts, and a liquor license. Truly, could a better place be found? I think not!
I found it when I was pregnant and almost died over the pecan pie, and then took a look at their drinks menu... chocolate milk and khalua..coffee and baileys and milk.. .. hot chocolate..

I have read somewhere that holding the baby facing in a different way than they lay to breastfeed will help them differenciate the feeding methods. I'm never there when my DD gets a bottle so I don't know how they do it, LOL.
Also I tell them to give the baby milk cold, (not frozen of course) but I am trying to make bottle feeding as unappealing as possible so that she will want to bf. Of course I work so this is an ongoing issue for me.

If your mom has problems with her not wanting to take a bottle, then she should sit her facing outward, i.e. on her lap, back towards grandma, and then come around and feed her sitting up. That might do the trick.
For handling instructions see here:

You might be surprised how easy she does take a bottle... What type of bottles do you have? We always used Avent and my kids never had a single issue with taking a bottle. None of them had a bottle for the first 3 months, but then one day we just try and they take it. But I know that success with bottle feeding is greatly dependent on the child. I think we just lucked out there!
I would encourage your Mom to keep trying if Valkryie rejects it at first. Come back to it after 10 minutes and use a different position. Wait till she's sleepy and slip it in. Babyblue's instructions are exactly what we did with the breastmilk. While giving them cold milk may make the bottle not very exciting, you actually DO want her to take the bottle while you're out, so warm is good :)
Enjoy your drinks!

I have a bottle that looks like a boob. Its funky. http://www.adiri.com/
When my mom babysat my son for the first time it was for my husbands birthday, and she called us a million times during the movie. When we got out we were about to go for dinner and checked the phone and freaked out when we saw all the missed calls. Called her back expecting a huge emergency. She said we had to pick him up RIGHT THEN because he was being SO BAD. He was about 5 months old. So I am a bit nervous. She is really great with him now, but not so great with little babies. I trust her, don't get me wrong, I wouldn't be letting her watch her if I thought she might hurt or harm her in anyway. I am just kind of expecting a call midway through to come get her. I am really hoping that if I can give her ways to give her a bottle that it will work out.
Another question..how much pumped milk do I give her? We are going out for dinner with them, and I am going to breastfed her a whole ton at the restaurant, and then they are driving to their house and we are staying in that area for drinks and dessert. I can't imagine us being back at their place any later than 1am.. So from dinner till then.. how much do babies drink at that age?

Oh man IDK! Cole will eat 6+ oz and then eat some table food too. He's such a pig! He's 8 mo though.

Hmmm I used this once or twice when I was exclusively pumping for Eli. I'm not sure if it will help in this situation though.

Is there anyone else that can watch her? I understand that you trust her but isn't that what most people think when they leave their kids with someone... that they can trust them? It is concerning to me that she can say a 5 month old is "being bad". What if your dd starts crying and won't stop? IDK, it sends up some red flags with the whole being bad thing.

If she starts crying and dosen't stop she will phone me. She already told me that, if she cries for more than about 45minutes that I need to cut the night short and come get her. I'm fine with that.

They say 1-1/2 ounces per hour, no matter the age. But when my mom watches my baby she always overfeeds, so I would leave more.

Both the grandmas do this. My mother in law would bottle feed almost the entire time we left him with her. They would go through 10 ounces in 3 hours. Now I know that is way too much, but whatever. It is not like she was watching him all day every day.
My mother gets really creative attempting to soothe and she still overfed him! It is hard to take care of a baby and not be able to offer up boobs I guess...

Yeah, I guess. I got on my DH one day because he started going through a LOT of milk. Then I came home and as soon as the baby made a noise out came the boobie, he called a "no fair!" LOL

Have DH or someone besides you do a couple of feedings before your Mom. That way baby will be a little more familiar and might may the whole experience with grandma go smoother :)

I would defrost it for her and leave it in the fridge. Right before you leave bf baby then put the bottle out. It will be roon temperature and when she is ready to eat it should be good to go. Breastmilk lasts quite awhile sitting out, like 4 hours I think.
