I had a very poor experience with my delivery the first time at our local hospital. I was considering using a midwife instead of a doctor this time. Well, it looks like I may have to go back to the hospital due to complications.

I am trying to find information on my rights as a patient and how to handle issues that may arise. During my first delivery the doctor and nursing staff repeatedly forced medications and procedures I did not agree with. Even going as far as not telling me what they were doing.

I am terrified to have the same things happen again but am feeling helpless. I don't want to risk the safety of my baby by avoiding care but I am also afraid of the staff at this hospital.

Does anyone know where I can find resources on how to handle patient's rights?

I can't give you info as I don't think I be in your country, I can sympathise though, totally.

First birth I was bullied into going into hospital and it was ruddy horrible.

Second birth though went fine but it was a homebirth.

I think that apart from finding out your rights as a patient, you also need to make sure you have someone with you who knows what you want, who knows the info you find out and who can advocate for you!

I know how you are feeling at this moment and it is a terrifying feeling. Part of me was really looking forward to going into labour and having my baby and another part of me was almost screaming and telling me to just go for a section and have it over with.

I hope things go well for you and you get a birth that is good for you and your situation.
