Just got off the phone with my sister. She was in the hospital last night, her and her oldest daughter was sick. My sister tested positive for the regular flu, but her daughter tested positive for H1N1 and she just turned 6yrs old.

We were all over my dad's on Saturday for my neices birthday party. She was playing with all my kids and they were having a great time. She was kissing on Cassidy and gave us all kisses when we were leaving. Within a day she got sick and now has H1N1!

What are the symptoms of H1N1? What do I need to look for in my kids?

I'm alittle bit freaked out since Aaron, he's 4yrs old, and Cassidy, she is 10 months old, both have Asthma. Aaron gets sick really easy and so does Cassidy. Aaron started coughing last night, but I went ahead and send him to school today after giving him his inhaler treatments. Is there a way to determine if it's his Asthma or something else with his coughing?

Please keep my sister and her family in your prayers. She and her husband also have a 4yr old and a 3 month old.

Sorry for them. It's not a given they'll get it. I'd call your child's pediatrician and talk to them as your dc have asthma and that could be bad with H1N1.

My dd had a headache last night and this am. One ear temp was 97.4 the other as 99.4.

DD is showing signs of H1N1. She's only 13 months, I know my older children and DH have been far more likely to be exposed, DH had flulike symptoms but they have been mild. I'm taking Zoey into the Dr today mainly for the respiratory issues, that really pop up at night. We've had two days of high fever and so far today she feels like she's sticking to low grade (I haven't had to give her anything in the last 12 hours).

Our ped assumed that DS had it last week. Since he didn't have complications,he didn't go in and he wasn't tested. They just assume it is likely h1n1 since the seasonal flu hasn't hit.

*fever
*chills
*fatigue
* muscle aches
*vomiting and/or diarrhea
*cough
*sore throat

The CDC website has a lot of good info. I would check it out. It gives a list of symptoms too look for concerning complications and when they should be seen.

ETA DS's fever was consistently high for about 3 days off and on. It got as high as 104.

My nephew tested positive for it, but is now getting over it. His symptoms were what Tweet listed and he did have to receive fluids twice from dehydration, probably from the fever and sore throat that made him not want to drink.

My kids were really sick a couple of weeks ago with the above symptoms, but they are now over it. DS, who is 2 yrs old still has not gotten rid of the productive sounding cough and it has been a couple of weeks. It is definitely better, but still present. I do not know if it was h1n1 that my kids had, but now that my nephew was diagnosed, I assume it was since they are always in contact.

Definitely stay on top of any symptoms if there is asthma involved.

Keep a close eye on them and if they get all the symptoms Tweet posted along with respiratory issues then I would definately take them to the Dr. With asthma you can't be too careful. Since you are still nursing the baby you might want to increase her feedings since you were also exposed and you body will be making the antibodies to fight what you were exposed to as well. Do you think Aaron will take some of your EBM?

Little update on my little one. Took her in and she is fine, just a basic virus. Still haven't had to give her anything for fever. Even at the Dr's office she was low grade, down to 99. The congestion isn't coming from her lungs, but with all the congestion that why she's sounding so raspy. So they gave me a syrup suitable for her age and if she gets worse and it heads for her chest then they'll RX her some albuterol.

I was on the other side of the waiting room from another mom with an older girl that looked just awful. I ran into her again at the store (we were both there for the same thing, more hand sanitizer and lysol) she said that her flu test came back negative twice. Here they do a quick test for type A, if postive it's assumed to be H1N1. So we have some sort of crud that is running around that makes you equally as miserable, but for a shorter period of time.

I was told that those tests are not %100 accurate.

I was told that those tests are not %100 accurate.

This is true, but they are pretty darn close. Usually greater than 99% sensitivity and specificity. There are a few different ones on the market. The quality of the sample also plays a big role in the accuracy of this type of quick test.

Aaron drinks 4 cans of Pedisure a day plus takes a children's vitamin. If I tried to put breastmilk in with his Pedisure, he probaby wouldn't notice the taste but he does watch me pour the Pedisure in his sippy cup. He has to watch it for some reason.

Cassidy is starting to get back to normal breastfeeding again. She has had thrush bad and is on medicine for it, so the past few days all she wants to do is breastfeed constantly, which is great!

I did notice Aaron has thick snot coming out of his nose today, he sniffs if back in instead of blowing it out. It is kind of green in color and I also noticed his lympnodes are swollen. No fever though.

The nodes could be that his body is trying to fight something off. I sure hope they don't get sick.
