DD1 hurt her ankle in cheerleading and I had to take her for an x-ray to make sure it was not broken.
Well it was not broken but the doctor gave her an excuse that read "no running or jumping for two weeks."
She gave that note to her soccer coach last monday and all last week they had her in "rehab" in the feild house. The trainer had her doing stretches and kept icing it and doing all sorts of things to heal it.
Well yesterday she told the trainer she wanted to run again and I told her not to because it had not been two weeks yet. Well the trainer said he would tape it before she went out.
Well against dr. and parental orders they let her run and DID NOT TAPE HER ANKLE and wouldn't you know it she fell on it again and now she can't move it!
DH is bringing her home right now so I have not seen it. I called the athletics department but no one answers. I don't know how I am going to handle this and since I am so pissed I wanted to vent here before I go and rip her trainer a new one for letting her run before the doctor released her and for not taping it before she ran.
UGH I am so pissed, now it might be broken or worse she could have permanent damage like torn ligaments or tendons.

I'd be angry. If you told them not to let her run, and the doctor said no running, why on earth did they think it was fine? What were they thinking?

Exactly and I did ask dd why she ran knowing that we had talked about waiting. She said she felt like she was ready. I am holding her some what resposible too because she knew how I felt about it and what the doctor said even her cheer coach told her to get cleared by her PCP before returning to the gym full speed ahead.

I don't think the trainer is totally at fault, did he force your DD to run. Did you call and speak with the trainer and let him know that DD wanted to run but you felt it wasn't a good idea seeing as she hasn't been cleared by the doctor. I would stop and cool off before ripping the trainer and new one and seeing what info he had regarding your DD running again.

I am calm now and seeing things a little bit clearer now. I spoke to the trainer last week via e-mail and he told me about the treatment they were giving dd and that she would be in "rehab" for two weeks.

The trainer is an adult, she is not. Either way, he should not have allowed her to run until she was cleared by the doctor. No exceptions.

I am going to call the coach today to make sure they understand that she is NOT to run today.

How did the trainer make her run? That's what I'm confused about. I'd put this mostly on your dd's shoulders. She was told not to run by doctor and you. She was told by trainer he'd put tape on it before she ran. Yet, she ran.
How old is your dd?

She will be 16 next week. I am not putting all the blame on the trainer at all (now that I have calmed down) but she asked the trainer if she could run and he said "you can try it but I need to tape your ankle first" In the first place he should not have told her she could try it since she did not have a release from the doctor and it had not been two weeks. I blame dd for running period knowing she was told by me and the doctor not to run.

Well, I can see putting it on her shoulders to a degree. However, she's 16 year old kid. Kids do dumb shit all the time. They want to do dumb shit all the time. It doesn't matter if she was crying and throwing a fit and telling the coach that she wanted to run. They should have said, "Nope, not until you are cleared with your doc". If she ran anyway, against coach's orders, I'd well imagine there would be a penalty for that of some kind and I'd expect a phone call to 3girls.

Tweet you basically summed up what I am feeling about this whole situation. I called the coach and he has not called me back yet. I need some answers to decide who to blame. DD knows she did wrong but the coach needs to know that what he allowed her to do was wrong too. What if she had broken it this time, who was going to foot the bill this time? They were told that she had to stay off of it and yet they wanted to tape it so she could run. I need to know what they were thinking.

I would be furious, actually, I am furious FOR you. I'd like to know why that coach thinks he knows better than your doctor.
Have you found out how bad it is this time? I hope its not broken!

It looks swollen and she has a pretty big ball on the side of her ankle. When she first hurt it was much more swollen than that. She is able to move it and walk on it but then again she is very tough and does not want to be hurt and she is pushing her self. I measured it last night and then again this morning and its not quit an incher bigger than the other ankle but the first time she hurt it it was an inch bigger within 30min.
I finally talked to the coach. He said he saw her fall and I mentioned the doctor's excuse and he said that she could sit out the rest of the week but she had to dress out because it was part of her grade. So then I asked him why she was allowed to run in the first place and he said that he was not told by the trainer that she was supposed to be out for two weeks he said he was not made aware of everything until this morning and he plans on talking to the trainer this afternoon to see why they allowed her to run. He also said she is one of his best soccer players that he has this year and he needs her ankle to heal.

I am not saying that what the trainer did was right, he should follow doctor's orders, but, I do think that by the teen age years a child should be capable of following doctor's and parent's orders.
If not, then I don't know that she should be there unsupervised.

Unsupervised? She is not unsupervised, she has been with the trainer all week and she looks up to the trainer for guidance as far healing he ankle and the trainer misguided her when he told her "you can try to run tomorrow but just come in so I can tape your ankle." DD failed to get her ankle tapped before going out to run so I blame the trainer for even telling her she could run period.

Exactly. That's why children aren't legally allowed to make certain decisions.

I don't know how much the trainer is to blame if she didn't listen to the trainer either.
I agree that the trainer shouldn't have told her that, but still..you and the doc told her not to run, the trainer told her to get taped and she didn't even do that.

Wait a minute..In Th OP you said she gave the note to the soccer coach..Is it possible that maybe your DD didn't give the dr's excuse to the coach, and maybe not to the trainer either?

It sounds like there is plenty of blame to go around here. It does sound as though your dd is going against what every adult tells her.

Does this mean I read this whole thread and Judy is not even going to show us her ass as promised? Sometimes internet porn isn't all that it is cracked up to be...

She has at least 3 coaches and a trainer so I don't know which coach actually got the note but she did turn it in and the trainer knew what it said but apparently the coach I talked to was left out of the loop. DD says there are over 70 soccer players since they have 4 different teams.
