yanking off breast

My baby sometimes yanks off my breast, fusses, re-latches, detaches, etc. At this time I often just have to stop & take a break b/c it hurts. Is he just full? Not able to get milk? What can I do to help/fix this problem?

Could be a number of things : ear infection, thrush, teething, shallow latch, overactive letdown just to name a few.
Or it could be nothing at all, just a phase.
If it continues and is bothersome, make an appointment with a lactation consultant or peer support person with la leche league for an evalutaion.
