I am currently on amoxicillin and I was told by a friend that Antibodics will dry out my milk supply.... is this true? If not I am also wondering what else I can do to "boost" milk supply.

Hello Janet,
Amoxicillin should not affect your milk production. Are you concerned about having enough milk?

I am concerned about it but whenever I feed my baby (who is 1 month old) she seems full and will not want to eat again for 3 more hours. A friend of mine told me today though that she was assured that an antibiodic would not decrease her milk supply and it essentially "dried her up", so now I am paranoid about it.

Hi Janet,
You are doing a fabulous job. It certainly sounds like you have a well fed and happy baby. Is she gaining a lot of weight? I have never heard anyone say that antibiotics dried up their milk. Perhaps there were other things going on. As long as she is gaining, no need to worry. Birth control pills can dry milk quickly.

not on birth control right now, she was born a month early and weighed 5lbs 15oz, she is now over 7lbs- and seems to be doing great, I was unable to breastfeed my son due to a lactose allergy so I am more than thrilled to be able to share this with my daughter. Thanks for easing my mind- I will not feel guilty taking my meds now!

Everything sounds wonderful. Trust that your breasts will make plenty of milk. The more you keep your baby skin to skin with you, the louder the message to the breasts to make milk! Enjoy her and contact me anytime you start to worry.
