inducing lactation using a hospital grade pump

Just wondering if its good to use the strongest suction or if it doesn't matter if I use the weak suction? I'm using a medela lactina pump. And what rate of pumps is best too... the dial is from 0 - 7?

I recommend as a first time user to turn the suction down to the weakest setting, you can gradually increase the suction after your breasts have warmed up, so to speak.

I had a terrible experience with my first time, I wasn't aware of the suction level and the machine pulled me so hard, I ended up cracked and bleeding"rant"

I am guessing that the rate is very individual because each woman responds differently to the pump.
