I have a 16 month old who is still breastfeeding. My husband and everyone else is yelling at me to stop. I am fine with her doing it. I don't want her to stop until she is ready. She fights with me if I even try to stop her. What do I do????:(

You keep nursing her. You tell people that you have chosen not to wean her at this point. The medical advice most widely given these days is to nurse for a minimum of 2 years - not 2 years - a minimum of 2 years - so no less than that.

Id say do whats best for you guys!! All too soon she will be grown up and these nursing times will be a distant memory. Id say as long as you guys are both happy then stick with it!!

Do what you feel is best for you and your daughter. My husband is supportive but the rest of my family is not. As soon as my son was 12 months old everyone kept asking me "have you weaned him yet" or "he's not still nursing, is he?" ? It saddens me to think that some people think nothing of bottle feeding after 12 months but feel like it's a crime to breastfeed after 12 months. My son will be 2 on Sunday and I'm still nursing (although I am trying to wean him slowly). Breastfeeding is so much more than just food, it's comfort! Only a mother knows when the right time to wean is! Trust your instincts!

I agree...if it feels right, keep doing it. You are causing no harm; you are only helping!

If you think about it, there are special formulas for babies over 2 years old. So, if they would still need formula at that age, that shows that they also, need their mother's milk at that age! It is hard though without your husband's support. Maybe you could try talking to him about your reasons for wanting to breastfeed for longer, and get him to see your side. It will be easier with your husband's support, even if he doesn't fully understand you. My husband never quite "got" extended breastfeeding, but in the end, he got used to the idea!
