Default HELP--Can't nurse without Boppy

I'd really love to be more comfortable with nursing on the go, but the few times I've tried to nurse without my Boppy, it kills my back and I have a hard time holding him high enough (had this issue with my first as well). Any advice besides carrying my extra Boppy in the car (not exactly easy to take everywhere)...

P.S. I have tried slings and I can't find one that works. I feel like such a klutz trying to nurse anywhere but on a chair/couch with my Boppy. It doesn't help that my kids hate being covered up and like to give everyone a show...

I usually would put an extra blanket in the diaper bag and would use a combination of the arm of the chair/couch/blanket/diaper bag to boost baby up high enough that it didn't kill the back. and before too long, baby was big enough that it was no longer an issue.

i used the diaper bag as a pillow . also i went to the car with the ac/heat going if i couldn't find somewhere comfy to nurse. plus it would help when ds wanted to show off. but most places i went to has a room to nurse in.

have you tried using the armrest of a bench or couch when out and about? you sorta prop your elbow and arm on the side to hoist them up there. that worked well for us. i too preferred the boppy but i'm a lazy mama so my kiddo figured it out fairly quickly.

I just use the arm of the chair at home and a pillow under my arm to help prop up baby high enough, as for the shops most places have a baby room and i keep a pillow in the baby bag for feedings (Helps heaps). I have curviture of the spine so my back ache's alot when feeding but the pillow does help alot

Great suggestions ladies. I will keep that in mind next week--I'll probably have to nurse him at church so I can see my daughter sing in the children's choir. Plus I think I really will start carrying my extra Boppy in the car and know that I have a backup plan if I can't find a chair with an armrest or a place to put the diaper bag to prop me up.

This really isn't for NIP, however a favorite nursing position I use at home is to sit Indian style with DS laying across my lap. I'm usually sitting on the floor and leaning back against my couch. My arm that is under his head is fully supported by my leg and I have my other arm free.

I never thought about Indian style, but that sounds like a good plan!
