Retin A Microgel and Cleocin T and breastfeeding
QUESTION: I was given a Rx from a dermatologist for Retin A Micro Gel and Cleocin T lotion for my acne. I had explained that I am nursing, and he said these were OK for me to use. But on the packaging for these products, it does say that they do not know if these drugs are excreted into breast milk and nursing mothers "should use caution". Is it usually OK for topical creams to be used while breastfeeding? Will any really get into the breast milk if only used on the skin? Thanks for any advice you can provide. Your doctor appears to be correct. If any amount gets into your milk it should be too small to cause problems. Good Luck Anne Norton-Krawciw, RPh, IBCLC
