Prozac and Nursing

NAME:
BABY'S NAME: Ian & Shawn
BABY'S AGE: 15 months
BABY'S PRESENT WEIGHT: 27 lbs & 22 lbs
BABY'S BIRTH WEIGHT: 7 lbs & 5 lbs, 15 oz

QUESTION: I have two or more migraines every month. My ob/gyn just prescribed Prozac to control them. Is it safe to take while nursing?

I have had a number of moms on the SSRI meds including Prozac though I would prefer most trying Zoloft first. This class of medications seem to help moms with migraines especially if they are irritated by moms hormonal cycle. American baby just had a blurb about the apparent safety of this type of medication in this month's issue. (March 99)
