QUESTION: I am wondering if my milk production is adequate. I started bringing Megan to
daycare about 3 weeks ago. She drinks about 12-15 oz of bottled breastmilk during the day
and I only can pump about 8oz during that same time period. Her Dr. said that her weight
was adequate but that she should be gaining a little more. I am afraid that my milk supply
in inadequate so I was going to start weaning her unto formula. What do you think?

A baby should double their birthweight by 6 months, and triple that by 1 year.
Your baby has more than doubled her birth weight by 4 months !!!!! I would say that is a
good indicator that she is doing well. What kind of breast pump are you using at work? If
you are not using a double electric breast pump you will not continue to make an adequate
amount of milk. Try to pump about every 3 hours at work. I don't think weaning to formula
is the best choice.
