(nursing mother to Zachary, aged 9 months)

There comes a time
in a nursing mom's life when she just has to let the secret out.
I am a working mom. I
have the luxury of pumping at work anytime I need to.
I could even pump at my desk if I had blinds for my office
windows.
I decided to go into the small meeting office that I usually use
because it has a locking door. I
went in, sat down and started assembling things when I hear a small
fender bender in the parking lot.
I wanted to be nosy so I went out the outside access door and
let it shut behind me. Well,
the door has no outside handle and locks when it is shut!
I didn't realize it right away because I was too curious
about who hit the delivery truck.
When I turned around I realized what I had done.
I went back into the office through the front doors and checked
the meeting office door hoping it hadn't locked!
It had! I had
locked my breast pump in the office.
I discretely went to a gentleman
that I worked with whose wife was also breastfeeding, hoping he would
understand. When I gave
him a brief explanation, he started laughing, but got up to aid me in
my desperate quest, to save my engorged breasts!
You may imagine where this is going.
It is impossible to pick a lock in an office building without
people getting curious. He
attempted to break the door down which gathered a crowd, who wanted to
know how the office door got locked with no one inside...?
So I confessed.
People were offering helpful advice and items to shove in the door to
get it open, we were rolling around the floor in laughter.
After all that, I finally got to sit down and pump, when the
bottle connection on my pump broke!
I couldn't believe it. I
made a desperate call to the manufacturer, they told me they'd send
a replacement but it would take 7 days.
My
husband runs a business out of the home, so he made daily trips into
my office so I could nurse the baby there.
He was really wonderful about it.
However, after the 3rd day or so, people began to
ask questions on why he had to bring the baby in.... so from that time
on when ever he came to the door I was notified that "Meals on
Wheels" had arrived!
Finally I got the replacement part and was able to have some peace and
quiet at my place of work! I
am so lucky with such an understanding and humorous group!
