The Pumping Police

She looked pretty suspicious...by Disney

I had just returned to work after maternity leave and was still a little anxious about using the breast pump.  Despite this I was determined to continue nursing.  Fortunately, my job requires me to be on the road all the time; thus I had the privacy I needed in my car... Or so I thought!

This happened in the early spring, it was time to pump so I found a quiet parking lot near the beach, a scenic pull off spot.  I proceeded to set my gear up, I saw several people hiking by and decided for more privacy to put up my car shades.

As I was happily pumping away I looked up in my rear view mirror and to my horror I saw a policeman quickly approaching my car, he had been suspicious about the blocked windows with someone clearly inside.  So as I tried to adjust myself quickly, spilling my "liquid gold" all over, he began to bang on my window.

As I initially ignored him in my attempts to get settled, he began to bang louder and yell "What's going on in there?".  I rolled down my window and feeling rather frustrated I replied "Do you really want to know?" he said, "Yes!".  So I haughtily replied " Well, If you really want to know I'm using my breast pump!"

He retreated quickly with a horrified look on his face.  As he walked away he spoke into his shoulder walkie-talkie and to this day I have always wished I could have heard what he had said to his dispatcher!
