Vignettes of Nursing Humor VIII

Great breastfeeding stories that will make you smile

When my sister was nursing her first born, our brother's son Trevor, who was 5, was fascinated by the entire process. One day my sister was in the bedroom using her very loud, very strange-looking (to a five year old) breastpump, when Trevor walked in. He stared at her in shock and asked what she was doing. She replied that she was using the pump to "get milk."

Trevor gave her a haughty look and stated, "We have milk in the refrigerator."

Trevor is now 10 and we still laugh over this story.

My son, Michael, is now 2 years old and has always been a precocious talker. He speaks in very clear complete sentences and learns something new every day. We have enjoyed natural weaning and he has very methodically dropped out feedings on his own as he has grown and matured.

We have always said a blessing at dinner time when all three of us are at home. Michael has been learning to hold our hands and say a simple blessing followed by "amen."

Several mornings ago, I got him out of his crib and brought into our bedroom where his dad was still sleeping and put him on the bed. He asked to eat and as I prepared to nurse him he spontaneously said "Thank you God for the food, amen!"

During church on Sunday afternoon my daughter Kimberly (2 1/2 months old) started to fuss. So I gathered up my diaper bag and headed to the top floor of the church to change he diaper and nurse her. Well, the church was so hot, and upstairs in the nursery was even hotter. They had the door open to the nursery and a gate up so that the air could flow through.

I got Kimmy's diaper all changed and sat down and got comfy and started to feed her. (Mind you I did have a shirt on that did cover pretty well so I wasn't hanging out everywhere.) My friend was in the nursery with her baby and her 5-year-old son who was suppose to be napping. All of sudden Jesse (the 5 year old) yelled, "Mom! That lady is feeding that baby with her boob!

"I was trying so hard not to laugh! The way he said "boob" sounded as if he has seen the grosses thing in his life! And the look on his face was priceless!

His mom started told him, "Don't you remember I used to feed you sister like that?" and he was like, "Oh yeah." Then she said, "And I used to feed you like that too."

Oh that was enough for him, he turned red in the face and said, "No you didn't!" By this time Jesse had moved in and was standing right next to me inspecting things, not saying a word.

Then his Grandpa came in to take him down stair and he yells to his Grandpa, "Grandpa! Do you see this lady? She is feeding her baby with her boob!" He said it so loud I am surprised the entire church didn't hear him downstairs.

You could tell that his Grandpa was embarrassed because he turned red and said, "Yep Jesse, that is what Mommies do." And they were gone. I tell you I had tears in my eyes from holding back the laughter! I have yet to be in a situation like that since!

My husband's Aunt had just come home from the hospital with the newest addition to the family. All the other Aunties were there helping out, their own children in tow. Everyone was enjoying the afternoon with the new baby, and the children were just fascinated with every little thing she did.

After a short time, the baby became hungry, and was offered the breast. Her older sister sat quietly, watching intently as the feeding went on. Finally she asked, "Mum, what are you doing to the baby?" Her Mum answered, "I'm feeding her." She watched a while longer, and then went out to play. She came back in just after the new baby had switched breasts. She asked again, "Mum, what are you doing to the baby?" and her Mum, puzzled, answered, "I'm feeding her."

She sat thoughtfully for a while longer, then finally said "Mum, are you still feeding the baby? Because I just don't think she is going to be able to eat all that!"
