Breastfeeding.com's Medical Advisory Board includes some of the world's foremost breastfeeding experts. The advisors answer questions from breastfeeding moms, contribute online articles and help ensure the site's medical accuracy. 

 


Dr. Ruth Lawrence

Dr. Ruth LawrenceDr. Ruth Lawrence, professor, author and researcher, serves on Breastfeeding.com's medical advisory board. Dr. Lawrence is a professor of pediatrics, obstetrics and gynecology at the University of Rochester. She is also director of the university's Breastfeeding and Human Lactation Study Center. Dr. Lawrence is the author of "Breastfeeding: A Guide for the Medical Profession," the standard medical reference book for breastfeeding. She was one of eight doctors who helped the American Academy of Pediatrics draft its 1997 policy statement supporting breastfeeding.
 


Dr. Jane Morton

Dr. Jane Morton, Clinical Professor of Pediatrics at Stanford University School of Medicine, is an expert on nursing premature infants. As a member of the Breastfeeding.com medical advisory board, Dr. Morton shares her expertise through online articles and live chat sessions. She works one-on-one with new mothers at the Lucile Packard Children's Hospital at Stanford University, teaching moms how to breastfeed successfully. In 1997, Focus Magazine named Dr. Morton one of the "Best Doctors in the Bay Area," and she was again selected by her peers as one of "Silicon Valley's Best Physicians" as reported in The Sane Jose Magazine in 1999.
 


Judith Reopke, RD, Ph.D

Judith Roepke, RD, PhD is Dean at the School of Continuing Education and Public Service and Professor of Family and Consumer Sciences at Ball State University, where teaches graduate courses on perinatal nutrition. She also lectures on breastfeeding and nutrition to professional and lay audiences nationwide. Dr. Roepke is on the professional advisory board of La Leche League International and is President-elect of the International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners that certifies lactation consultants in the United States. As a member of the Breastfeeding.com medical advisory board, Dr. Roepke offers visitors her expertise on the nutritional aspects of breastfeeding.
 


Amy Spangler

Amy Spangler earned her bachelor's degree in nursing from the Ohio State University and her master's degree in maternal and child health from the University of Florida. She is a Registered Nurse as well as an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant. Amy has served as president of the International Lactation Consultant Association and chair of the United States Breastfeeding Committee. She is a member of the affiliate faculty at Emory University School of Nursing, a perinatal instructor at Northside Hospital, and the author of numerous publications including BREASTFEEDING, A Parent's Guide, BREASTFEEDING, Keep It Simple, BREASTFEEDING, Your guide to a healthy, happy baby, and Guidelines for the Establishment of Exclusive Breastfeeding. Amy currently serves as president of Amy's Babies, a small company that develops breastfeeding education materials for parents and professionals. She lectures extensively on a wide variety of maternal and child health topics. Amy lives in Atlanta, Georgia with her husband Dennis. They have two sons, Matthew and Adam.
