Jennifer and Scott Hoenig planned a quiet New Year's Eve, complete with a bottle of non-alcoholic apple
cider while doctors were working hard to keep Jennifer from having
premature babies.
The twins had a different idea.
Jennifer spent three weeks
before New Years Eve at Tufts New England Medical Center hospital on
strict bed-rest. Hoenig
delivered her daughter at 11:58 p.m. on Dec.31, weighing
1 pound 15 ounces. She delivered her son at 12 a.m. on Jan.1,
weighing 2 pounds 7 ounces - making them the rare twins to be born in different years.
"It's
very exciting. We're very happy. We weren't expecting it," said
proud mom Jennifer Hoenig, 29. Before the babies were born
Jennifer said,
"There was some talk where we were like ha-ha wouldn't it be funny if they were born in different
years."
The babies
were two months premature (born
at 28 weeks) and were taken to the Natal Infant Care
Unit.
Jennifer stated, "We
want to keep them fighting. We're hoping for as little
complications as possible." So far the babies have not been named yet.
Jennifer
also said she
was delighted to welcome her little girl to a household where she has
been totally
outnumbered. The Hoenig family currently reside in a
dormitory at Phillips Academy in Andover with more than 40 boys.
Scott
Hoenig is a teacher and counselor at the prestigious boarding school.
Jennifer said, "My husband
brought a bottle of sparkling apple cider." To celebrate the
birth of their babies' she said, "I think we'll toast with
that."
It only took two minutes, not a lot of time separated the birth of Jennifer and Scott Hoenig's
babies', but it was enough to give these twins different birth
days and different birth years.
