The Comfort of a Mother

by Brenda Weatherly

In my crib Mama tucks me in bed,
She kisses my chubby cheeks and pats my bald head.
So quickly to sleep I go,
She sings a lullaby with a voice soft and low.

In the middle of the night I arise.
I am hungry and cold,
So begins my cries.

I wait for Mama,
Oh, come quickly, please!
I see her now!
She picks me up and gives me a squeeze.

Mama brings me to her room
And lays me in her warm bed.
I feel such a peace here,
On Mama's pillow I rest my weary head.

She tucks me in beside her
And pulls up the sheet.
We are so close,
I can hear her heart beat.

Against Mama's warm body
I am tightly pressed.
I feel like I am in heaven
As I nurse from her breast.

I am so calm and content,
This I know now,
Can anyone be happier?
Please tell me how.

I know of nothing greater
Than Mama's peace and love.
She was given her tenderness
From my Father above.

I know Mama's happy
Because I heard her say,
"I can cuddle with my baby
All night and all day."

Daddy snuggles in close
And cuddles Mama and me real tight.
I hope our family is this blessed
Each and every night.
