by A more assertive mommy of
Taylor!

I
have an eleven month old daughter who was strictly breastfeed for six
months without solids. I read the article on shots not hurting while nursing
when she was six months old and thought that sounded like a good idea to
try.
On the day of her checkup I asked the nurse if we could try to do it that way and she said that it would be too difficult to do it that way and
to just save it for after to comfort her. I was a little upset that she
wouldn't even try it but I didn't argue.
Then when it was time for her nine month checkup we went in and as usual she decided to nurse after the doctor
had left the room but the nurse was coming back to stick her toe to check
her iron levels (it was a different nurse this time). When she came into the
room she said " could you put her up on the table for me so I can stick her
toe?" so I did still nursing she stuck her toe and she never even flinched.
The nurse commented on how she didn't even jerk her toe and I said that
eating was just more important to her and she said I'm sorry I didn't even
realize you were nursing her that's a good way to keep them still for shots!
I was so upset that we couldn't have done it that way the last time because
the nurse was not willing to try it but at least now we know that it does
work and we can be more assertive next time.
