Breastfeeding in Public

by Joy to 5

We headed to the local hardware store so I can get some locks re-keyed and have extra keys made.  It always takes a long time at this place to get anyone to help out, so we walk around looking for an employee to help us out.

My son starts to get fussy in his sling which only happens when he's hungry.  I position him and whip out the boob to start nursing him in the isle. FINALLY an employee comes by to help and starts re-keying the locks.  He's talking about the weather and what he's going to do the coming weekend. It's all small talk while he works.

Another mother, also using a sling walks up and asks how long the wait will be to have a few Keys made.  He gives her the answer and she says she will wait.  She then looks at me, notices I'm nursing my baby.  She smiles and positions her baby to start nursing hers.

Not long after another woman comes down the Isle holding her baby.  She sees us both then says "I'm glad I found the Breastfeeding isle. My little guy was getting hungry himself!  This entire time the employee didn't even realize he had two nursing mothers standing by him.  He looks up and says that he's so glad to see mothers doing what nature intended and skipping the bottles.  He also said he was going to share this with his wife in hopes to help her nurse her next baby.

We all smiled at each other knowing we can all nurse in public without anyone (Except other nursing mothers) knowing we are taking care of the needs of our babies, discreetly.  I was so very happy with this employee that I wrote a letter to the manager about his attitude and how glad I was to have been helped by him.
