My five year old stepson was intrigued with his baby sister, Julia, before she was even born.
During my pregnancy, he worked hard to understand how she was surviving inside my belly.
He knew that my belly was growing because Julia was growing.
He noticed that my breasts were growing, too. One day, he pointed at them and asked,
"Are those Julia's feet sticking out there?" I explained that those were my breasts and that Julia would get her
food from them after she was born.
Once Julia arrived, my stepson still had a rough time understanding how she ate. He wanted very much to feed her and was frustrated when she
couldn't eat a ham sandwich he made for her.
The confusion finally ended when he saw Julia feed. He looked and said,
"Julia is biting you!" I
explained she was drinking milk that I made especially for her. He said,
"That's cool. Can you make me some next?"
