I just had my first child 10 months ago. Joshua is a wonderful baby, but I
have to say getting started breastfeeding for the first time for me was not
as easy as everyone made it out to be. I remember hearing "Just hold the
baby right and everything will be fine". Well, I held Joshua how I was told
but still he wasn't doing that well and what no one tells you is how much it
will hurt.
I really wanted to breastfeed however so I talked with someone who was very soothing and she basically said come up with whatever works
until you and Joshua get into a rhythm. So, come feeding time, you could
fine us in Joshua's room, settled into the comfy rocker, with a CD playing
and me singing at the top of my lungs. It took my mind off the pain and let
me relax enough for Joshua to get a good meal and then everything started to
click. I only had to use this method a couple times until I started feeling
better and not so anxious but I'm sure for a day or two my neighbors wondered what was going on at our house....
