I'm Pumping Mom!

by Heather Morris

As the mother of 4 children, I have several funny breastfeeding stories.

But this is one I can't wait to tell my boys when they get older.

I'm a nurse in a Maternity Center and a childbirth educator so my children have always been very educated on anything involved with breastfeeding and childbirth.

When I was on maternity leave after having my 3rd son, I rented a hospital pump to use at home to store up some excess milk in the freezer.

My first 2 boys, ages 7 and 2, were fascinated by the pump...
how it worked and how to hook it up.

Unbeknownst to me, my 2 year old had been paying very close attention.

I was emptying the dishwasher one morning when Hunter, age 2, volunteered to take the pump parts back to my room.

I finished emptying the dishwasher and cleaning up the kitchen and noticed he had not returned from his task.

I walked back to my room to find Hunter laid back in my bed pumping at full speed and full suction, shirt off and all!

He had paid attention and knew how to put everything together, hook it up and turn it on.

When I asked him what he was doing, he looked at me like I was a fool and said very matter of fact,

"I'm pumping Mom!".

He ended up with two hickies on his belly but it was priceless.
