Mom from South Africa

By Clare

I was pregnant with my second baby.  I did not know if the baby would be a boy or a girl.
I was one week overdue and HUGE.

The doctor preformed a late scan and the estimated weight of my baby was about 4.3kgs. (10 pounds12 ounces).  I had a really quick labor.  2 hours and no pain relief, completely natural.

I had a BIG surprise when baby Kate weighed in at 5.1kgs. (11 pounds 2 ounces)

We had a rough start.  Kate was so hungry and the hospital kept pushing me to give her formula.  But I really wanted to breastfeed.  I even expressed my milk into a teaspoon and tried to feed her like that.

After 2 days I was so tired.  All I wanted to do was give her a bottle of formula but my boyfriend really encouraged me to breastfeed.

After our discharge Kate developed Cord flare and I developed Mastitis, but we made it!
In my darkest days I found the most wonderful support from Breastfeeding.com.  Even though I'm in South Africa the ladies were most helpful.
