When my fourth child, Thomas was about 18 months old, I was giving him a bath and among the various
toys in the tub were a few naked Barbie dolls belonging to his older sisters.
He promptly picked one up and
began trying to nurse on Barbie!
I was rather pleased with myself that my breasts must resemble the
perfectly-shaped, perfectly-sized set of Barbie (don't I wish....).
When my second child, Kate, was a few weeks old, my husband and I had an appointment to go to and
asked my mother to watch our three-year-old, Molly.
Molly asked my mother why she wasn't watching
Kate also.
My mother explained that Kate had to go with Mommy so that Mommy could feed her.
With a
supportive pat on the back, Molly reassured my mother - "Don't worry Nanny.
When you grow up, you'll have breasts, too."
My youngest son, Thomas, is now 2 1/2 years old and after nearly 7 straight years of breastfeeding, I am
just about done.
I'm not sure if Thomas is fully ready though as he asks every few days for
"nummies."
Recently he brought me a video from our movie cabinet called "There Goes a Truck."
The two main
characters are truck driver Dave and truck driver Becky.
He asked me to put "Becky movie" on.
I asked
him if he liked Becky, and he replied with a big grin "Yeah, I like Becky, Becky have big nummies."
