When Dana of Connecticut decided to breastfeed her third son, she
considered herself an "old pro."
"I breastfed the first two and loved the bond that developed between
myself and the babies, so when my third came along, it was just natural
for me to nurse him, too."
Yet, according to Dana what didn't feel natural, or particularly comfortable, were the nursing clothes she wore when breastfeeding.
"It seems my son wanted to nurse every 15 minutes, no matter where I was.
Nothing I wore let me nurse discreetly. I either had to pull my top up
and expose my belly or tug at my shirt to find an opening. I was always
afraid I was exposing too much so I'd duck into the nearest
bathroom." She laughs, adding, "I must know the location of every bathroom in every
store within a 2-mile radius of my home!"
So what options are open to women who want to nurse discreetly and comfortably without giving up their fashion sense?
Enter Line Rothman of Rye, New York, mother of two girls and one boy, all six years of age and under.
Here's a case where necessity is truly the mother of invention.
When Line became a new mom and decided to nurse her baby, she had difficulty finding nursing bras that gave her the support she needed,
and at the same time made her feel stylish.
Like most mom's, she was uncomfortable lifting her shirt to expose her post-maternity midriff and
stomach in public.
Her frequent trips to Denmark (her native country) with a nursing baby further exacerbated her dilemma.
"It's not easy lifting your shirt and nursing a baby in such tight
quarters," she says.
And so Glamourmom and a revolutionary patented design was born. It was
the first bra of its kind to combine a tank design with a built-in nursing bra for total breast support, ease of nursing and complete
discretion from its midriff and tummy coverage. It offers one-handed access and even a mesh lining to hold nursing pads in
place.
"It was important for me to be comfortable when nursing my baby, yet
still feel sexy and fashionable with the proper support and
coverage," says Rothman.
"With the different Glamourmom designs in tank tops, slip dresses and even a bathing suit, every nursing mother can wear stylish
fashions, just like she did before she was pregnant, without appearing
matronly or bulky."
One of Line's wholesale customers, a noted lactation consultant, reports
that many new moms are actually more intimidated by exposing their bellies in public than by the act of nursing in public so they
appreciate how the innovative design covers the post-partum belly.
In addition, the consultant noted that new moms are more likely to breastfeed longer if they feel comfortable and feel good about
themselves as they nurse.
Fast-forward - during Line's third pregnancy, the innovative light bulb
flashed again and she imagined a transition piece that would take her and her customers from pregnancy right through nursing.
She felt compelled to develop this solution in response to emails received from
pregnant and nursing mothers asking for a garment that could be used before and after their baby was born.
Thus, the Maternity Nursing Bra Tank was born, a versatile built-in nursing bra design with greater width and length in
the torso so it can be worn to the hospital and back home with the newborn.
Glamourmom's high-quality, soft, environmentally-friendly cotton conforms to a
mom's shape as she loses weight.
With her eye always on fashion and her ears always accessible to the Glamourmom customer, Line then created the Glamourmom Nursing Bra Long
Tank to accommodate nursing mom's with longer torsos and those who like
the long tank look so fashionable today.
Customers appreciate her approachability as she is always asking for their opinions through her
Glamourmom newsletter.
Line now works full-time at Glamourmom and her children frequently visit the offices.
"Glamourmom has always been a part of their lives, they don't know life without
it,"
Line adds, "Many new nursing moms are happy to have Glamourmom in their lives as well."
Dana adds, "When I slip on Glamourmom, I know I look good and I know
I'm doing the best I can for my baby. I think the name says it
all!"
