Gabriella uses the potty
Posted On 06/20/2008 11:54:13 by aangieb
My 13 month old daughter has been using the potty. I don't really know what to do with this. I am not trying to potty train her (I do not expect her to not go in a diaper). However, she stays dry most nights and goes on the potty in the morning. We also make many trips to the potty during the day and she will both pee or poop. After she goes she claps her hands, so I know that she knows what she is doing. I have been setting her on the potty ever since she could sit up. We use cloth diapers, or go diaper free at home. My question is, do I just continue doing what we are doing? I have read that potty training too early can cause problems, but what am I supposted to do when she already goes on there? I do not want her to loose what she already can do.

Yea, lately Gabriella has been telling me when she goes if I do not get her to the potty. She looks at me and grabs at her diaper between her legs like "he-llo mom, I'm wet, why didn't you take me to the potty?"

Good for her!!! If she is going on her own and you are not forcing it, then she is ready. My oldest was completely potty trained by sixteen months, and she doesn't have any problems. I did what you've been doing, sitting her on the potty since she could sit up. My second was a little slower, but was still potty trained by twenty two months. My daughters both showed signs of knowing what they were doing at an early age, and I just followed their clues. I think we as parents sometimes ignore the signs are children are giving us, and then when we are ready, they are confused because they were ready before we thought it was time, and we continued it. My son, is eight months old, and at six months old he would take his pacifyer out of his mouth and drop it. Everytime I put it in his mouth he did that, so I quit giving it to him because he no longer wanted it. I think your little girl is smart, you have been training her without forcing so she is doing what has been taught. Keep up your routine.
