spoiled breast milk
Posted On 06/27/2008 10:41:09 by inkypersmom43
Hi,

I need some help.  My baby is now exclusively on breastmilk and i am back at work.  I'm pumping.  I keep the milk in an icepack then refrigerate at home then put in bottles and send to the sitter for daytime feedings.  My baby, Mande, has had first very liquid and now thicker but very frequent bowel movements.  Does anyone know if this might be from bad breastmilk?

Thanks for any advise.

I DON'T THINK THE BABY WOULD DRINK BAD OR SPOILED MILK. THEY WOULD MOST LIKELY BE CALLING YOU TO BRING MORE MILK IF IT WAS BAD & SHE WOULDN'T DRINK IT. I THINK IT DEPENDS ON WHAT YOU'VE EATEN THAT'S IN THE MILK YOU GIVE HER. SOME DAYS MY DAUGHTER POOPS 4-5 TIMES/DAY & SOME 1-2 TIMES/DAY. IT DEPENDS ON WHAT I'VE EATEN. I'VE READ MILK CAN STAY @ ROOM TEMP. FOR 6 HOURS OR SOMETHING LIKE THAT. IT CAN STAY IN THE FRIDGE FOR 1 WEEK. I THINK YOUR MIK IS FINE & IF THERE WAS A PROBLEM SHE WOULDN'T DRINK IT:) I THINK YOUR STORING YOUR MILK FINE.

Frequent bowel movements are normal for a bfing baby. Breastmilk is more easily digested. Bowel movements will become more solid once other foods are introduced. Teething will also cause a runnier bowel movement. It sounds to me like you have a normal bfing baby! Good luck to you!

My baby is 3 months now and still BF.  In the beginning, poops are very liquidy and then when they hit around 1-2 months, they start getting seedy.  Sounds like it is normal.  How old is your baby? As far as sour Milk?  My BF has never been sour even when it sat in room temperature for 2-3 hours, I just put it in the fridge of what was left over from that feeding.  I've never tasted my milk, but I'll take others advise on how it tastes.   I think you are ok.  I wouldn't worry.  When we leave and I have chilled milk in the car, its usually good for the next time he needs to feed.  Hope this helps too!! No worries!! Just keep in refridged if you are not using it!! BREASTMILK is like GOLD!!! lol Every drop is valuable....
