almost no milk supply

Hi... I posted on here a month or so ago regarding questions regarding supply. I had had a breast reduction 12 years ago and was told that I may have difficulty breastfeeding. I solely breastfed for 2 weeks and after that my baby was losing weight and the pediatrician had me supplement (after being very patient and weighing baby frequently).  When I had pumped, I was sad to get only 1-2 ounces of milk. Anyway, since then I had returned to work for 4 weeks and pumpled 3-4 times a day.  Each day my supply became less and less. I stuck it out until work ended (I teach) and now I am home.  I try to latch the baby on as much as possible but she usually cried in frustration. I have continued to pump, but to my disappointment, I have even less milk. I have drank the teas, tried beer, even bought a supplement device to hook up to the breast. I didn't have much success as the baby was still crying when latched on, milk was flying everywhere, we were both covered in formula, etc. I tried submitting to the fact that I have to give formula but I'm taking it so hard. I'm so upset and disappointed... almost zero milk is coming out when I pump. I feel like my husband is fed up b.c I am almost obsessed with trying to get milk.  It's almot too upsetting to even pump but I also can't seem to give up, even when I try.  I would appreciate any help possible. I'm really heartbroken over this and I'm taking it pretty badly!  Does anyone know of anything I could do or anyone who I could speak to to help???  Thank you.

Oh hun, I am so sorry you are going thru this!  I feel for you!  I have had to come to peace with the fact I can't solely BF either and it is hard to swallow b/c for nine months you've got your mind made up that you are going to BF.  I drank the teas, took supplements and even went the pharmaceutical route...and I obsessed so much that our household was in a constant tizzy.  I don't know how to tell you how I finally came to the peace I now have about supplementing, but you owe it to yourself and your family to try to grasp some peace...maybe if you can find a way to relax you will have more milk.  I did...not a whole lot but more than none.  I've heard it a ton of times from the ladies here and from lactaction consultants that some BM is better than none at all...so whatever amt you can provide your little one is doing a lot of good...also remember that pumping is no indication of your supply b/c baby can extract more milk than a pump.
Keep your head up, you are doing an excellent job and you're a wonderful mommy for trying so hard to give yout little one the best!

HI! HAVE YOU TAKEN ANY ALLERGY MEDS OR MEDS THAT MIGHT HAVE DRIED YOUR MILK UP & NOT REALIZED IT? WITH MY 1ST BABY I TOOK BENADRYL TWICE NOT KNOWING IT WOULD DRY MY MILK UP. WHEN I WOULD PUMP I WOULD GET HARDLY ANYTHING & BABY WOULD FUSS AT THE BREAST. I FELT GUILTY THAT I COULDN'T FEED MY OWN BABY. I KNOW HOW YOUR FEELING.  HAVE YOU CONTACTED A LACTATION CONSULTANT? I WOULD TRY THE LACTATION CONSULTANT BECAUSE THEY HAVE TIPS & TRICKS THAT DOCTORS  DON'T KNOW TO USE OR SUGGEST. TRY NOT TO BEAT YOURSELF UP SO BADLY. I KNOW IT'S HARD BUT TRY NOT TO GIVE UP UNTIL YOU'VE TALKED TO A EXPERT ON BREASTFEEDING. TRY MORE THAN 1 OPINION IF WHAT THEY SAY DOESN'T SATISFY YOU. GOOD LUCK.
