Threatened Miscarriage and Weaning
Posted On 07/09/2008 00:11:13 by NumNum

I had a threatened miscarriage on June 21st. Everything is alright now, and the doctors can hear the baby's heartbeat, saw the ultra sound and everything looks normal. It was the worst thing in my life. I was sitting, rocking my 13 month old son and felt a little moist, it's common in pregnancy but I stood up and carried him to his room and felt warm and wet. I looked down and bright red blood was running down both of my legs, then I had a clot fall out of me (I thought it was the baby as it happened) but it was a round clot the size of a lemon. Anyway I laid down after that and the bleeding stopped. We went to the ER and had an ultra sound and some blood work done and that's when I saw the baby and the heartbeat. I spotted a little more that night, Sunday and Monday, that day I went to my OBGYN and their ultra sound looked normal too. Doctor said their not sure why or how this happened but to rest for two weeks and take it easy. I have a 2% to 3% chance of miscarrying now, and that's the norm for anyone 13 weeks pregnant. The sad thing was that I had just finished my last breastfeeding session with my son just 30 minutes before this happened. I had been weaning my son for months and that week I was down to 1 nursing a day. I wasn’t even going to nurse him that day but my left breast was so engorged. I had wanted the last day I breastfed him to be a special day for our memories. But we have many special days of nursing before that one.

That is so scary.  I had minor spotting the first 10 weeks of my first preg and THAT scared me.  Although, I knew that it was normal, it just doesn't SEEM normal to bleed during pregnancy.
