painful poops again
Posted On 07/14/2008 10:39:25 by cheryln
okay, it seems like my 1 year old is having some REALLY painful poops.  he cries a lot and he seems to be straining a lot to get it out. he's not a big fan of fruit(i don't think he likes sweet things), otherwise i would be trying to get him to eat that to get things moving.  i'm worried that he may be trying to hold in his poops because they are uncomfortable to pass.  every day or so he poops out a little bit but nothing big. i'm going to try to give him some prunes today and hopefully he will eat them. is there anything else i could do?

You could also try Mirolax Laxitive. It's now available over the counter. That is what my Ped perscribed for my oldest daughter at that age. You use a quarter cap in whatever he likes to drink. It has no flavor or bad after taste. Will work in 4-8 hours. It's a dream. I even use it occasionally. Iron pills are the pits. Good luck!

lm_tlsanders--yeah, we were having that problem.  he loves bananas but i think they are binding too.i don't know for sure but that's what our ped always told us to give our boys when they had diarrhea.

Maybe some diluted prune juice would be more appealing to him if he doesn't like sweets...1:1 ratio, we do this for our little one b/c she has a hard time pooping too...also, someone mentioned fiber, be careful with giving too much fiber it can have the opposite effect and bind someone up if not enough fliuds are also consumed,
