Mama Allergic to Fenugreek/ DS allergic to sweet potatoes
Posted On 07/14/2008 22:17:47 by ShawnMattysMama

I was talking Fenugreek for about a month or more and had been having some personal issues pretty much going back to when I started talking it and I was only taking one pill a day. Went to the doctors and she didn't know what could be causing it so I asked if she thought it could be an allergic reaction to the fenugreek. She told me to stop taking it (which I had already done) and the next day the problems were pretty much gone! Wasn't sure if anyone else has ever had a negative reaction to it.

As for my DS.... I gave him his first vegetable after trying the cereal for about a week. He ate sweet potatoes and loved them. The next day his eczema seemed to have exploded on his body it was EVERYWHERE!! The doctor said to wait a few days for the eczema to heal up and try either white potatoes, squash, bananas, or avacado's and no more sweet potatoes. Has anyone experienced their child having a reaction to baby food? If so does it mean they will always be allergic to it?

Thanks for the help!

Fenugreek is in the same family with peanuts and chickpeas, and may cause an allergic reaction in moms who are allergic to these things. Fenugreek is often cited as a natural remedy for asthma. However, inhalation of the powder can cause asthma and allergic symptoms. Some mothers have reported that it worsened their asthma symptoms. If it is effecting you in some I'd stoped taking it and maybe try some other remedy. It never bothered me though.

Even though he may be having a bad reaction to sweetpotatoes now doesn't mean he'll always have that allergy. Just takes time for little baby bellies to adjust to this new world of foods. I'd just cut out the sweetpotatoes for now and go onto introducing something else.

My son is allergic to alot of things including some baby foods. Our allergist said that as he matures we can try those foods that caused a reaction again. Their system matures and they are able to eat those things that once caused an out break.
