Nursing No Longer
Posted On 08/30/2008 02:27:25 by mommy_melissa
I have not nursed my baby for almost a week. My breasts are huge and are starting to get lumpy and a little uncomfortable. What is te best way to help reduce the swelling wihtout pumping and producing more milk? I have an ace bandage that I just wrapped around my breasts? Will this help or just cause more harm then good?

Do you have seasonal allergies? Don't laugh! When I asked my LC about taking Benadryl for itchy eyes and runny nose she said don't because it dries up the muchus in your nose and could dry up your milk. Definetly ask your dr about this one cuz i don't know the side effects of taking a med when you really don't need it but it might help you dry up. Other wise, do cabbage leaves :)

Some cultures say that wraping the breast are the best thing.  The trick to this is that if you do it, you need to wrap them when they are not full and keep them wrapped.  Personally I would use cold compresses and cabbage leaves in my bra.  In addition to that don't be affraid to express some milk manually over the sink when you are uncomfortable.

I have heard that compression can help, I have also heard that cold cabbage leaves in your bra will help to dry up milk.

 Good Luck
