Mexi,
Try going to www.thebirthden.com/Newman.html and checking out some of the articles and videos he has there. It's good stuff and will explain a lot. I have always been taught to nurse both sides, like our friend chrisandclaire says. However, Dr. Newman has another style and it makes good sense to me.
Basically, I know all babies are different and some prefer one way, some another. If this seems to be the pattern you guys are falling into, I'd go with it. Trust yourself and trust your baby's signals.
Hope that helps. I know you're nervous about going back to work. The more you understand the "mechanics" of breastfeeding, the more successful you will be.
Happy Nursing!

i can tell you what i have learned.  the more you nurse or pump the more you make.  you should be offering each side at each feeding.  even if she doesnt eat much on the second side, than switch sides each feeding.  one feeding L long time and R shorter time than next time R long time and L short time.  think of it like one side is lunch and the other side is dessert.  if i were you and had a pump i would pump the second breast that she didn't finish.  you will find the hardest part about breast feeding is pumping enough when you need it, so get it while the getting is good.
