Rosemary Birthing Home

I'll start by saying this is the absolute most fulfilling experience in my life.  Its amazing the way we as women were created so intricately by the loving & careful hands of God.  Knowing we have a little boy or girl to welcome & to love with all our hearts makes it so apparent why God wants to hold each & every one of us so very close to him.  I am amazed!
We've decided to go to Rosemary Birthing Home for our pregnancy.  I've never been too thrilled about the hospital or doctors office, so a birthing home is natural to me.  Laz, on the other hand, was very concerned with my & the baby’s safety & felt technology was the safest choice.  We went to orientation before the holidays so he could ask questions & had our first appointment with the midwife yesterday!

The birthing home is located in Rosemary Court, downtown.  There's a small parking lot & a cluster of 2-story Victorian houses, each painted various playful & vibrant colors, but not for children, they're adult "offices" lol :o) what a difference walking through a canopy of trees, rock gardens & flower gardens instead of a huge confusing parking garage, elevators & uncomfortable waiting rooms!!!  They had home made cookies, a super friendly staff & comfy couches.

We spent 2 hours talking with Harmony, our midwife.  We talked as if we were there to get to know each other.  She was on a glider/rocker & we relaxed on a daybed & talked about everything, not just she & I but Laz was very involved as well.  She calmed his fear of not being in a hospital setting, we talked about testing & labs, anatomy, the guess-timate due date, diet, exercises, the likelihood of Laz being the one to catch the baby & cut the umbilical cord, everything!  Not once did she hurry us along.
Somewhere in the middle of it all Laz saw the models they had of a baby's stages of growth.  He picked up the 16week baby & just held it in his hands in awe.  For the first time since I've known him, he was speechless, with this big smile of accomplishment across his face :o))))) I'll never forget that smile!  When she did the exams as uncomfortable as they are, Harmony was great!  There is no feel good exam, but it wasn’t near as bad as the other experiences I'd had before.  When I had my initial pregnancy test, I wasn’t sure of exact dates, so they couldn’t tell me how far along i was, they estimated.  Harmony told me, by growth, I seem to be at 16-18 weeks instead of 14 1/2!!!  We'll go for the ultrasound Jan. 22nd to find out his/her age, sex & so on, so I'll fill you in then.  We heard the baby's heartbeat for the first time, tears & laughter filled the room, we'd hear the heartbeat, I'd start laughing & Laz would have tears well up in his eyes.  It was so fast, much faster than mine.  156 beats per minute!  Harmony laughed, she knows we're hoping for a boy, she reluctantly told us later that most boys’ heartbeats are under 140 & girls are above.  hahaha Needless to say, we had a great day yesterday!  Thank you Harmony, for putting our mind at ease, making us laugh, being there when we cried & living a life to ensure this experience the best it can be.  God Bless you & your commitment to life.
