I'm so excited!!
One of our patients has a HUGE black head. The size of a pencil eraser with a lump under it about as big as a grape..I swear the thing has been winking at me for days!!
The RN I have to work with is throughly disgusted by the thought of it and gets chills everytime I bring it up..HOWEVER when I told the day shift RN she was very excited about it.
So I talked to the patient's doctor and he's going to look at it today and we'll probably get to extract it tonight when I go back to work..They are going to call me if the excavation gets "bumped" up!

Oh its possible Dookie...the thing is probably older than I am..
Bad news though..It couldn't be extracted manually..yet..
The RN tried squeezing and it wouldn't budge, it looked like it would just come right out. She tried loosening it around the edges a little using clamps and pulling..nothing..so we're going to try later. Numbing the area first and lancing if need be. I'm more excited about this than delivering babies!

I was talking to my mom about this and she said my great grandmother had one on her back the size of a dime. The doctors could not get it out no matter what they did. She died with it in her back.
Man oh man would I have loved to take a crack at it

I'm kinda bummed...the thing wouldn't pop. Her doctor decided that if it started bothering her later that she could come in and have it taken out. But really it doesn't bother her so no immediate need to get it out. I guess the fact that we all wanted to see it gone didn't weigh in on the decision..Oh well..maybe next time. Now there is an obvious seperation at work..the people who were obsessed with the giant winking black head and those who were repulsed by our obsession.
