HI AGAIN - THANKS FOR CHECKING IN.  THINGS ARE GOING WELL.  I HAVEN'T STARTED THE BOTTLE REGIMEN YET...I WILL BE HEADING BACK TO WORK IN A FEW WEEKS AND THAT IS THE GOAL WE ARE WORKING TOWARDS SINCE HE WILL BE HOME WITH HIS DAD AND GET A BOTTLE EVERY NIGHT ANYWAYS.  HE SHOCKED US THOROUGHLY ABOUT A WEEK AGO AND SLEPT THROUGH THE NIGHT....BUT IT HASN'T HAPPENED SINCE.  HE'S BEEN GETTING UP TWO TO THREE TIMES DEPENDING ON WHEN YOU START COUNTING...WE'VE STARTED THE BATHTIME/BEDTIME RITUAL AND PUT HIM DOWN AROUND 7:30 OR 8:00.  SOMETIMES HE TAKES A LITTLE TIME TO GET SETTLED IN SO HE MIGHT NOT ACTUALLY GET TO SLEEP UNTIL 8:30 OR 9:00.  FROM THERE HE WAS WAKING AROUND 2-2:30 AND THEN THROUGH TILL MORNING...WAKING UP AT 6:30 OR SO.  I WAS THRILLED WITH THAT BUT IT DIDN'T LAST AND NOW HE'S UP CLOSER TO 12:00 AND AGAIN AT 4:00, AFTER BEING PUT DOWN AT THE SAME TIME.  SO I'M RAMBLING AND HAVE GONE INTO WAY TO MUCH DETAIL.  I SEE IN MY LAST MESSAGE THAT I MENTIONED NAPS...WHICH IS IS DOING WELL WITH.  ALL IS WELL...HE GAINED ANOTHER 2 POUNDS OR SO AT HIS MOST RECENT DOCTOR'S APPOINTMENT.  AND HE GOT LOTS OF SHOTS, WHICH I THINK PLAYED INTO THE INTERUPTION OF OUR SLEEP PATTERN.

Hello again...we are working on sleeping at night (and during the day for that matter).  The little boy has been resistant to going down for naps...even after he's fallen asleep in my arms or in the swing, etc.  I guess it's that closeness or movement that knocks him out...and that being in that crib all alone doesn't feel nearly as good.  As follow up to the bottle discussion....how much are you giving?  I am pumping and my husband will be giving bottle regularly when I return to work in a month or so.  The idea at the breast is eat till your full but who knows how much that is?  Think that there is a typical amount of milk that we can plan for?  Take care -

Hello!  In reading your response to Bambi about sleeping...where did the idea of a bottle before bed come from?  This worked to ensure that he was getting a full meal....is that the purpose it looks to serve?  And with that full meal comes a longer night's rest?  Thanks for the friend invite...I am really enjoying this website already...as I never joined something like this before.

How is everything going? Is your little one sleeping better? Are you still able to pump? Hope all is going well!

hey thanks for your feedback.  I do have one simple question when it comes to pumping... I do hve a pump from the hospital that I rented.  My son was in the nicu for 5 days and so when i was discharged, I was at home pumping like crazy...but now that he's been hom for a week and a half, I haven't been pumping as much, and I feel like if I do, then I can't feed him!!  I want to go back to the beginning where I was pumping out 4 oz every 4 hours!!! that was lovely!!!!!!!  what do you think?

My son was in the NICU for six days, and because I delivered by c-section I was able to stay for four days, and then after that they turned my room into what they call parent rooms and I was able to stay until he was discharged. This is what I did. I nursed him on their every three hour schedule, and then as soon as I was done I would go back to my room and double pump for fifteen minutes. That way I was stay as close to his schedule and not pumping and nursing all day. Sometimes, you may not pump as much as you did at the previous session. If you can keep up the nursing and pumping, I would try. I discontinued pumping when I got home because he started nursing every 2 hrs, I have two older children to care for, and I only have a manual pump, and I was just really tired. I didn't feel the need to continue pumping because I am a stay at home mom, and am not away from my children very often. You can make it work though! Just nurse first, then pump, right after. Also drink plenty of fluids. And remember that from one pumping session to the next you might not get the same amount. He may take more from you at one time, than another, but still be nursing for just as long. My LC said that was normal, good luck and let me know how things go!
