Food Allergies
Posted On 05/02/2008 14:59:17 by Allysetter
My son will be 7 months old on the 9th. about a month ago he was diagnosed with food allergies to milk, peanuts, eggs and also our dog. We now have to carry a epi-pen with us everywhere just in case. I have had to remove those things from my diet as I am breastfeeding. My son is not gaining weight like the doctors think that he should be according to the precentile charts but he is healthy and active as to what he should be doing for his age. I was just wondering if anybody has had this happen and if anybody knows some good recipes for these allergens. I want to continue breastfeeding and I don't want to put him on formula if I can help it but they think that he needs to put more weight on! His father and myself are not big people so I think that he is fine and is just going to be small like we are. Any suggestions? Has anybody had personal opionions or had this happen to them?

MY SON HAS ALLERGIES,BUT DOESN'T HAVE A WEIGHT ISSUE. MY DAUGHTER WERE BOTH VERY SMALL BEFORE THEY TURNED ONE. THEY WERE OFF THE CHARTS N HEIGHT BUT 30-55% IN WEIGHT. NEVER ONCE DID MY DR. SAY TO SUPPLEMENT OR QUIT NURSING. IF HE IS HAPPY AFTER EACH FEEDING AND CONTINUES TO THRIVE OTHERWISE, I WOULD SAY HE IS JUST GOING TO BE SMALL, HE'LL CATCH UP IN TIME. IF YOUR DR. IS TO PUSHY, I WOULD SUGGEST ANOTHER DR.

OMG dont stop nursing. That will not solve anything. My daughter is going to be 8 months on the 6th and she was also diagnosed with sever allergies to Wheat, EGGS, Milk and Peanuts. I also have to carry an epi pen with her. I hear you. I had to also stop eating ALL dairy products. watch out they are hidden in all foods and the food comanies choose diffrent words for milk. Is he eating soids?? If so pump up with the rice cereal and nurse him after every feeding. My daughter is above average in hight and 96% in weight. she loves to eat and is doing fine now. What foods do you have to avoid?  I am going thru the same thing and  i am making all my daughters baby food so i will send you some recipes when i have more time ok.  TTYL!
