Baby waking up alot at night
Posted On 05/12/2008 08:17:15 by kellywolfe
I thought it was because of the nursing.  But this is out of hand.  My son has to sleep with my boob in his mouth all night, if it falls out he wakes up.  He is waking up like 7 or 8 times a night.  He is 4 1/2 months old almost 5 months.  Weighs about 15 pounds, not like he is lacking the nutrition dept.  But he does have all the signs of toothing.  Is it too early for that?  Could he just be super spoiled?  Whats your thoughts on "crying it out"?  Any alternatives.  He is only breastfed.  Doesn't know what a bottle or pacifier is.

Girl, I don't know where to begin.  Your baby is still young, kindof, so I don't know if it's a spoiled thing so much as a comfort thing.  He wants what he's used to.  But be careful, it could turn into something like what I'm dealing with.  My son just turned 10 months and still waking up 5 or 6 times a night just to nurse a little and go back to sleep.  It's really driving me crazy, I am SOOOOO tired.  He usually sleeps in bed with me all night because it's more convienient for me.  My husband is sleeping in another room because there isn't enough room for all of us.  Baby boy kicks and moves around a lot so I don't like to sleep directly beside him.

My situation is slightly different than yours because my son is older I know that he's capable for sleeping for a long time without needing food.  It just so happens that whenever he wakes up he needs me to get him back to sleep/ He takes a pacifier occaisionally but usually spits it out and sometimes he doesn't even want it, he just wants to nurse. In your case, I would try to give baby the pacifier, just to see if it would help. Also, if he's teething, give him some infants motrin throughout the day and before he goes to sleep.  If he's in pain then that could be waking him up too.

Girl, I feel like I'm going out of my mind. I am so tired sometimes. I get terrible headaches and I'm irritable to my husband and kids.  My husband is going to have a long weekend over Memorial Day, we are going to work on trying to get baby back in his crib.  I am not sure what we will do.  I may try to read a little and get some advice.  For my first son I let him cry it out, he was around the same age I think.  I hated it but it only 2 or 3 nights and then it was over.  He slept in his crib ALL night. I didn't like the method so I'll try something else this time.  All I know is that I can't continue on 2 hours of sleep at a time.  That's killing me.  Le me know what you decide, Sorry for being so long, I always write a lot.

According to my doctor babies can start teething as early as 4 months! So that could be it, or maybe he is going thru an "I want mommy stage"..For me a pacifier works..as soon as the nipple is out of my little one's mouth in goes a pacifier b/c all they want is something in their mouth...my doctor told me that they will use mommy as a pacifier and for my own sanity i should use one...now i believe that is totally up to the parents if they want to use a pacifier but in my case it helped!...if you do try one, soothies are suppose to be the best for BFing babies b/c they will feel more like the nipple and baby is less likely to bite (they get use to the shape in their mouths and nuks-have you seen them? if baby thought that was mommies nipple..OUCH!)
