Well, are you making it okay since you have been out of work with no pay? I would think that it will actually cost more for you to go back to work since you will have to pay for childcare, formula, gas to and from work, that also means extra wear-and-tear on your car, then you will have to buy lunch while you are working.  There is a lot of extra expense that most people don't realize when you work. You need to sit down and calculate actual expenses of going back to work verses staying home.  There are a lot of ways to cut back on the costs of meals too.  Cooking dry beans instead of buying canned; eating fruits and veggies that are in season; using leftovers to put in soup (I love this kind of soup with some added ingredients); having basic cable, if you have a cell phone do you need a house phone too?; go early to the grocery store to get the marked down meat; use stale bread to make french toast or bread pudding; most importantly DON'T WASTE ANYTHING; buy store brands, don't rent movies etc.  I have found MANY ways to save money.  Have you considered cleaning houses/offices etc.? Or selling the baby clothes as he outgrows them? What about organizing a baby clothes sale?  It is really popular where I live. You advertise, send fliers out to schools etc, have the people put the clothes on hangers, they must be clean, and tag the clothes with safety pins with their name and the price of the clothes.  They get like 60% and you (or the group of organizers if you have help) get 40%.  You may have to rent a place to have the sale but the $ you can make is unbelievable.  Its a huge baby/toddler sale all in one place, it's GREAT!  GOOD LUCK!  I think you will see that working a minimum wage job doesn't give you that much more income.  Also, consider checking online for a school that offers a program of interest to you.  You can earn a certification, diploma, or degree and this will help you to get a better paying job later.  You can apply for grants and scholarships too to help with the expenses.

I GUESS I WOULD HAVE TO SAY,  THAT TRYING TO MAKE EVRY PENNY COUNT IS TOUGH.  I AM DOING THAT IN ORDER TO STAY HOME... I STARTED BY LOOKING FOR JOBS I COULD DO FROM HOME/IN HOME  FIRST.  THEN I STARTED CUTTING BILLS.  CUTTING BACK ON THINGS NOT NEEDED...  I.E. EXTRA CABLE CHANNLELS, STOPPED TAKING THE TOLLWAYS AND PAYING THOSE FEES--AROUND HERE I HIT THEM DAILY..  SHOPED STORE BRAND..  AND YES THE DREADED CUTTING COUPONS,  BUT IT HELPS...CUT BACK ON ANYTHING THAT CAN BE CUT BACK ON..  EVEN VEHICLES....  THE OTHER THING IS I STARTED A JAR..  THIS JAR I PUT ALL EXTRA CHANGE IN FROM THE STORE VISITS FOR DIAPERS ECT.  THAT CHANGE I TAKE AND THEN TURN INTO CASH AT A COINSTAR.  THAT USUALLY IS ENOUGH FOR A QUICK TRIP OUT WITH MY DD.  FOR FRIES AND SOME MOMMY AMD ME TIME...  THAT WAY THERE IS NO GUILT..  OTHER THAN THAT ONLY SPEND ONLY WHAT I MUST TO GET BY....   AFTER ALL ONCE THESE DAYS ARE GONE YOU CAN NOT GET THEM BACK.   (ALL THEIR 1ST ARE THE BEST TIMES...)   CONGRATULATIONS ON THE NEW ONE..  HAPPY MOTHERHOOD...
