How often do you pump? I'm trying to get a supply built up so that I (as much as I hate it) can have some free time from the baby to spend with my other children and also give my husband the opportunity to feed the baby from time to time. I had a great supply built up but took ill about a week ago and all though I did still nurse him as often and I could, I just couldn't stay awake or out of the bathroom long enough to me his demands. I've recently started pumping again, but like I did recently, I only pump once a day because I'm always afraid I won't have enough milk when he does go to the breast to eat ( which I know there is enough). Does anyone have any recommendations on a "pumping schedule"? He is now almost 6 weeks old and he LOVES to eat (he was born at 6lbs 15oz on March 10 & at 5 weeks, he weighed 10lbs 3oz). Thanks!
A Wisconsin mother said she is greatful to Wal-Mart officials for backing her right to breast-feed her 5-month-old baby. Pamela Nicholson told WITI News that during a recent trip to a Racine Wal-Mart her 5-month old baby became fussy so she began to feed her son in the middle of the store. Nicholson claims she was covered by a blanket and the shopping cart when a Wal-Mart employee told her she needed to go to the restroom or leave the store. "All of a sudden I had this female employee come up to me and very rudely tell me that I could not breastfeed my child in the store, that either I had to go to the bathroom or I had to leave," Nicholson told WITI reporter Christina Head. Nicholson opted to leave the store after she claims the employee told her breast-feeding was against store policy. A spokeswoman for Wal-Mart released a statement to WITI stating, "We respect the right of any mother to breast-feed her child. It is against our policy to penalize any mother for breast-feeding her child."
Today I went in for my first WIC appointment since Alexander was born and discovered that the WIC office is holding a Cutest Breastfed Baby Contest. Of course, I have to enter it just because I think it would be cool if we won. There's not really a big prize or anything, just that the winners baby picture will be displayed in promotional campaigns in the area. Not only do I have to submit a photo of Alexander, I also have to write a essay of 100 words or less on why breastfeeding was the best choice for me.....mine is 93 words. I've posted my brief essay here for everyone to review to make sure it says enough or do you think it's good enough???? I've also decided to use my new default photo of Alexander as the picture I'm entering (the close up of his face). So, please read my essay below and feel free to leave me your input! Thanks!
Why Breastfeeding was the best choice for me:
Breastfeeding was not only the right choice for me but more importantly, the right choice for my son. By breastfeeding I’m able to give my son the proper nourishment he needs to thrive. I also love that I am able to develop a bond with him that is indescribable and can’t be felt by anyone but the two of us. Lastly, there is no greater feeling than knowing the reason he continues to grow is because my body is providing him with all the essential vitamins and nutrients that he needs to succeed!
